Final Flood Watch For Gippsland, Central And Northern Victoria Issued at 01:42 PM EDT on Tuesday 09 January 2024 Flood Watch Number: 7 RAINFALL RISK HAS EASED, WITH MINOR TO MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING ACROSS PARTS OF FLOOD WATCH AREA A slow moving low pressure system moved eastwards across the state during Monday. This brought widespread rainfall across the Flood Watch area, which has caused minor flooding, with isolated moderate and major flooding in northern catchments. The system has moved out over the Tasman Sea early Tuesday and no longer poses a rainfall risk. In the 24 hours to 9:00 am Tuesday, rainfall totals up to 96 mm were observed across parts of the Flood Watch area. Catchments are moderately wet to very wet following recent rainfall. No significant flood-producing rainfall is forecast for the next few days. A chance of showers and thunderstorms remains, but forecast rainfall totals are not expected to significantly affect river and creek levels. Widespread minor flooding, with isolated moderate to major flooding in northern catchments, is likely to continue over the next few days over parts of the Flood Watch area. Existing flood peaks will continue to travel through river systems with Flood Warnings being updated as required. Bemm, Cann and Genoa Rivers, Tambo River, Mitchell River, Traralgon Creek, and South Gippsland Rivers catchments.
