Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Cancellation Of Severe Thunderstorm Warning for East Gippsland, Mallee, Northern Country, North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and Wimmera Forecast Districts. Issued at 7:31 pm Thursday, 8 January 2026. Weather Situation Conditions have begun to cool and stabilise across central, northern and eastern Victoria. Isolated thunderstorms are continuing, but the risk of these storms producing damaging wind gusts has ended. cancellation of severe thunderstorm warning for the following areas: East Gippsland, Mallee, Northern Country, North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and Wimmera This warning is now cancelled. Note, a Severe Weather Warning has been issued for FRIDAY for a broader damaging wind risk over much of Victoria. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live. * Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
