Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 01:44 PM EST on Tuesday 21 January 2025 Valid for Tuesday 21 January 2025 to Friday 24 January 2025 Warning for the following areas: Southeast Coast Warning for the following areas: Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Capricornia, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Wide Bay and Burnett Safety Advice:: Extreme heatwaves can be dangerous for everyone. Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Maximum temperatures over eastern districts in the low to mid thirties, increasing to the mid to high thirties from Wednesday. Overnight minimum temperatures over eastern districts in the high teens to low twenties. Maximum temperatures over inland districts in the mid to high thirties, increasing to the high thirties to mid forties by Wednesday. Overnight minimum temperatures over inland districts generally in the mid to high twenties. Severe heatwave conditions are building over broad areas of southern and central Queensland this week and are expected to persist over inland parts until at least next week. Extreme Heatwave conditions are now forecast over the Southeast Coastal District for the Wednesday to Friday period. A milder southerly change will bring some relief to eastern districts over the weekend. Locations likely to be impacted include Brisbane Metropolitan Area, Clermont, Dalby, Emerald, Gladstone, Goondiwindi, Longreach, Rockhampton, Roma and Stanthorpe. The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm EST on Wednesday 22 January 2025
