Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, Queensland Major Flood Warning For The Diamantina River Issued at 01:45 PM EST on Friday 18 April 2025 Flood Warning Number: 27 MAJOR FLOODING EASING SLOWLY AT BIRDSVILLE Flooding is continuing along the Diamantina River following moderate to heavy rainfall in late March and early April. Moderate to major flooding is easing along the Diamantina River between Diamantina Lakes and Birdsville. The river level at Birdsville is likely to fall below the major flood level early this weekend. No significant rainfall is forecast for the next few days. Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes: Moderate flooding is continuing along the Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes. The river level is currently at 4.86 metres and falling, 2.76 metres above the level of the causeway on the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road (2.10 m). Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes: Moderate to major flooding is easing along the Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes. The Diamantina River at Birdsville was last observed at 8.10 metres and steady around 4:00 pm Thursday, above the major flood level (8.00 m). Early Friday afternoon, the river level is estimated to be just above the major flood level and falling slowly. The Diamantina River at Birdsville is likely to fall below the major flood level (8.00 m) early in the weekend. The river level will continue falling but is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (6.00 m) through to at least late April. Flood Safety Advice: Remember: If it's flooded, forget it.
