Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, Queensland Major Flood Warning For The Western River And Flood Warning For The Diamantina River Issued at 09:09 AM EST on Thursday 27 March 2025 Flood Warning Number: 7 MAJOR FLOODING MAY OCCUR ALONG THE WESTERN RIVER AT WINTON FROM LATE THURSDAY Moderate to heavy rainfall over the last several days has caused river level rises across the Diamantina and Western River, and nearby creeks. Moderate flooding is occurring at Winton and major flooding is possible from late Thursday. Further rises are possible. Rainfall is forecast for the next few days, with possible thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. A Severe Weather Warning for Heavy Rainfall is current for Maranoa and Warrego and parts of Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West and Channel Country Forecast Districts. The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required. Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes: Major flooding is occurring along the Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes. The river level is currently at 7.17 metres and rising, which is 5.07 metres above the level of the causeway on the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road (2.10 m). Western River: Major flooding may occur along the Western River. The Western River at Winton is currently at 3.30 metres and steady, with moderate flooding. The Western River at Winton may reach the major flood level (3.50 m) late Thursday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain. Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes: Minor flooding is occurring along the Diamantina River at Monkira. Upstream floodwaters are expected to arrive at Birdsville from early April.
