Severe Weather Warning

Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology New South Wales Cancellation of Coastal Hazard Warning for Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina, Lower Western, Upper Western, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts. Issued at 10:17 am Saturday, 18 January 2025. Damaging Surf conditions have abated, rough seas persisting. Weather Situation A low pressure system off of the northern NSW coast is producing strong southeasterly winds which will continue to drive rough seas along coastal waters. cancellation of coastal hazard warning for the following areas: Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina, Lower Western, Upper Western, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Tablelands Damaging Surf is no longer occurring in NSW. However, hazardous surf conditions are likely to continue between Montague Island and Coffs Harbour today, moving to Ulladulla to Byron Bay late this afternoon, extending to Tweed Heads late this evening, then contracting to north of Wooli by Sunday. A Hazardous Surf Warning remains current. For all of the latest warnings, please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/warnings/. The immediate threat of damaging surf has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary. A wave height of up to 4.9 m was recorded at Sydney and 5.4 m at Crowdy Head on Friday. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * Don't walk, ride or drive through flood water. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Beware of fallen trees or debris on the road. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. No further warnings will be issued for this event. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
