Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology New South Wales TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 02:21 PM EDT on Wednesday 22 January 2025 Valid for Wednesday 22 January 2025 to Friday 24 January 2025 Warning for the following areas: Northern Rivers, Northern Tablelands and North West Slopes and Plains Safety Advice:: Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Maximum temperatures generally in the high twenties to high thirties, increasing into the low forties over the Northwest Slopes and Plains. Overnight minimum temperatures in the mid teens to low twenties, increasing to the mid twenties over the Northwest Slopes and Plains. Severe heatwave conditions over northeast parts of the state are expected to ease later in the week and over the weekend with a milder southerly change, although Low Intensity heatwave conditions are expected to persist into next week. Locations likely to be impacted include Byron Bay, Glen Innes, Inverell, Moree, Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads. The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm EDT on Thursday 23 January 2025
