Wild weather in Perth as severe storms hit WA
Severe thunderstorms are spreading over parts of WA today, with damaging winds recorded near Perth shortly before lunchtime.
A cold front and low pressure system have caused blustery winds, squally showers and dangerous thunderstorms to spread over southwestern districts of WA during the last 12 to 24 hours.
The sequence of composite satellite and radar images below shows a smattering of showers and storms passing over southwestern Australian on Tuesday morning.
Some of these storms produced damaging winds, with gusts reaching 98 km/h at Pearce RAAF at 11:21am and 113 km/h at Rottnest at 11:33am AWST.
As of midday local time, a severe thunderstorm warning was in place for damaging winds in the Lower West and parts of Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt districts, including Perth.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to affect southwestern districts of WA into Tuesday afternoon before easing this evening.
