Wet season continues for northern and central Queensland
While Australia's tropical cyclone season has been slow off the mark, the wet season has certainly started to make itself felt in central and northern Queensland over the last week.
Parts of central and northern Queensland have seen 50-100mm of rain in the last week. A few places have even picked up over 200mm in the last 7 days. Lockhart River's 249mm and Proserpine 205mm both exceeded their entire monthly averages for December.
Further heavy rainfall is expected for the remainder of this week across much of central and northern Queensland. Heavy rain should also spread into the Capricornia district, particularly about the coast and ranges.

This week's heavy rain will be caused by a moist, tropical air mass being lifted-up and wrung out by an upper-level trough moving east across Queensland.
With some river catchments becoming saturated after the recent rainfall, rivers are starting to rise and several minor flooding warnings are in place. This flooding could be exacerbated by further heavy rain in the coming days, so be sure to keep track of the latest flood warnings here: https://www.weatherzone.com.au/warnings.jsp?lt=wzstate&lc=qld
