Searching tonight's skies for shooting stars

Kim Westcott
Tonight is picked to be the peak of the meteor shower that Earth is plowing through, but will the skies clear to see these shooting stars?. For Brisbane, the peak of the meteor showers will begin around 9pm with the cloud beginning to break up around dinner time. In Sydney, clouds may hamper the opportunity to see the shower. Clouds will build again this evening, although there will be patches which a glimpse may be gained. Further south, Melbourne will have the best conditions to witness this event with clear skies and a warm night in the mid-teens. Party cloudy skies around Hobart will limit the viewing potential later tonight, although this will be mainly patchy low cloud. These meteors can be seen when you face the north east, with as many as 100 shooting stars every hour at the the peak of the event.
