Perfect Sydney weather for Big Bash final

Perfect Sydney weather for Big Bash final

Whoever said it always rains at big cricket matches in Sydney should take a look at the forecast for the final of BBL|13 between the Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat at the SCG this Wednesday evening, January 24.

In short, it's perfect.

The match falls in a window between two days of cool southeasterly winds – which have delivered light showers to the city, and its especially its coastal fringe – and a hot spell towards the end of the week which could bring showers and storms.

But to use a term which is not strictly meteorological in origin, Wednesday evening's weather should be baby bear's porridge ... as in juuuuuuust right.

The day should peak at 30°C, with temps remaining in the mid-20s for most of the match, which starts at 7:15 pm.

This is the third time the BBL final has been held at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the competition's 13-year history. The Sydney Sixers have won both previous finals at the iconic venue, in 2021 and 2022.

The 2021 final between the Sixers and Melbourne Stars was reduced to a match of 12 over per side after 12.8 mm of rain which cleared just in time. That was the seventh-straight day of rain in a February that would deliver triple Sydney’s monthly average, in what would eventually be the Harbour City's wettest year on record.

But somehow, the weather cleared enough for an abbreviated version of the match to be completed. The weather this Wednesday night should allow the full 20 overs per side.
