Nice day for a wet wedding on flooded NSW Mid North Coast

Anthony Sharwood

When Kate Fotheringham woke up on her wedding day on Friday, she admits she had a bit of a meltdown at 6 am when she looked out the window at the family farm in Killawarra, near Wingham, on the NSW Mid North Coast.

"It was the most water that I've ever seen in my life and the most that Dad's ever seen in his life," she says.

Alas, the road to the church in Wingham was blocked by floodwaters rushing across Dingo Creek - normally a small tributary of the Manning River which on this day was a raging torrent at least 100 metres wide.

But you don't grow up in the bush without being resourceful, so Kate decided to take matters into her own hands, sharing her plight on social media.

It didn't take long before her wedding day prayers were answered when a nearby helicopter tour agency stepped up and choppered Kate to church.

Sadly, only 80 of the 180 invited guests could make it due to the floodwaters, but at least the wedding went ahead.

Kate is 30 and her new husband Wayne Bell is 33. We hope they make it to 90 together, just like the sign in this gorgeous wedding snap.

It's now the sixth consecutive day of heavy rain in many parts of New South Wales and the fifth for Sydney. Southeast Queensland is also experiencing heavy rain and flooding. You can keep up with all the warnings here.
