Thick fog shrouded Brisbane on Friday morning, prompting a road weather alert and reducing visibility to 200m in some areas.

The fog developed over the valleys and low-lying inland areas of southeast Queensland during Thursday night. As the sun rose on Friday morning, the fog had spread across Brisbane and was even flowing out across Moreton Bay.

Satellite images showed the widespread fog drifting over the state's southeast in the first hours of daylight on Friday. From the ground, the hills surrounding Brisbane offered a spectacular view of the fog engulfing the city.

Visibility was reduced to around 150 metres at Archerfield and 200 metres at Amberley, becoming thick enough in the city to prompt a road weather alert due to dangerous driving conditions.

The fog will dissipate as the ground warms up during the morning, leading to a dry and mostly sunny day in Brisbane, with a pleasant top of 25 degrees.
