City2Surf weather: Sydney to reach 19 degrees with slight chance of showers

Weatherzone Staff

Sydney is set to serve up mostly sunny skies with a slight chance of showers for the City2Surf this Sunday, August 11, as a record field of 90,000 runners takes on the famously scenic and hilly 14-kilometre course from the Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach.

  • Sydney CBD is heading for a top of 19°C on Sunday, which is a degree or so above the city's long-term average August maximum of 17.9°C.
  • For those waiting for friends at the finish line, conditions will be a touch cooler at Bondi Beach with a top of 17°C expected.
  • It should be around 11°C in the city as runners arrive at 7 am for the early starts, then around 12°C at 8am, and around 14°C at 9am for the remaining groups' starts.

The day should start dry, with the chance of early morning fog in some parts of the city. Once the fog clears, increasing sunny breaks can be expected.

As the race progresses, there's the chance of showers, which could persist into the afternoon. Should showers arrive mid-race, it’s likely they won’t be persistent enough to dampen the mood for runners.

In Bondi, there's a slightly higher chance of a shower or two blowing in off the sea.

But the bottom line is that conditions should be comfortable for most runners and spectators for what is billed as "the world’s largest fun run".

Please be aware that numerous road closures are in place, including some major roads.
