With the year nearly at an end, let's take a look at where rainfall totals stand for state and territory capitals.  

Out of the seven state and territory capitals, three have already exceeded their annual average, all comfortably by 200mm or more. Somewhat unsurprisingly Brisbane (1603.8mm , Sydney (1641.8mm), Darwin (1936.4mm) take the top spots for wettest capitals this year. 

Out of the remaining capitals, Perth (613.6mm), Melbourne (591.8mm) and Canberra (567.8mm) have come close to their annual average but will remain below this with very little to no rainfall forecast before the year is out.  

Adelaide is comfortably the driest capital this year and will remain so, with only 346.6mm to date and virtually no rainfall forecast for the rest of the year.  

Hobart is the one to watch – with 603.8mm so far this year, and an annual average of 609.3mm, the city is only 5.5mm away. As the forecast stands, Hobart is only expected to receive up to 3mm in the next couple of days so it could be a close one!
