Adelaide on track for rainiest October in 17 years

Ben Domensino

Frequent showers and a few bursts of heavy rain have put Adelaide on track to register its rainiest October since 2005 based on the number of rain days this month.

In an average October, Adelaide would usually see rain on around 10 to 11 days of the month, or one in every three days.

This month, the city has already had 13 rain days and could add another two or three more before the end of October.

As it stands Adelaide is having its wettest October since 2016, which had 14 rain days. If it gets to 15 this month, this will be its rainiest October since 2005 (17 rain days).

Adelaide’s rainiest October was in 1975 when the city copped drops on 22 out of 31 days in the month.

The city’s wettest October on record based on accumulated rain was 133.2 mm in 1949. This is unlikely to be challenged this year, with only 51.4 mm in the gauge up to 9am today.
