Welcome soaking for inland Queensland
An inland trough full of tropical moisture has delivered significant rain to inland parts of Queensland to 9am this morning.
St George and Roma in the Maranoa and Warrego district picked up 54.6 mm and 45 mm respectively to 9am this morning. This was the heaviest daily rain since February last year for Roma and March last year for St George. February is generally the wettest month for the year for both towns.
In the North West district, Mount Isa picked up 44.2 mm in the 24 hours to 9am this morning. While this wasn't the heaviest rain this month, it now brings the town's monthly total to 116.5 mm, above the February average of 100.7 mm. A whopping 69 mm fell in 24 hours on the 7th February, aiding the monthly total significantly. January is usually the wettest month out of the year for Mount Isa.
Widespread rainfalls well in excess of 25 mm with the system were received in a large area on, and west, of the Great Dividing Range in Queensland, with the heaviest falls occurring in thunderstorms.

The inland trough that produced these significant falls is currently breaking down, with the next best chance of further falls for these areas looking to be around Thursday 18th.
