Frosty mornings giving way to big wind and rain
Brett Dutschke
Southwestern Western Australia has had two weeks worth of cold, frosty mornings but it's about to change as strong winds and rain arrive later this week.
The wind and rain will develop as soon as Thursday, bringing an end to the record long spell of cold mornings.
Rain will be widespread across the South West Land Division (SWLD) with almost everywhere getting some by the end of the week. Even the inland Gascoyne and Goldfields will get a bit.
Some places will get rain each day through to mid-next week as the weather pattern finally moves enough to allow a few cold fronts through.
By next Wednesday parts of the Lower West and Southwest should gain more than 100mm of rain, most falling this Thursday night and Friday with the first front - a big turn around after one of the driest June's on record.
With each front there will also be bursts of strong winds, possibly strong enough to bring down trees and powerlines. For most of the SWLD the strongest will be on Friday when northwesterlies are a chance to exceed 100km/h south of about Perth.
Similarly strong gusts are possible on each of the following days until Tuesday, south of about Perth and east of about Esperance.
