Do not drive through floodwater
It's a clear and simple message that could save your life. Do not drive through floodwater.
Flooding has been widespread in NSW and southern Queensland over the last six days following a bout of persistent and heavy rain. This multi-day deluge has inundated rivers and covered, or in some cases destroyed, roads and bridges.

The flooding has undoubtedly made everyday life more difficult. Things like getting to work, visiting friends or your wedding have suddenly become challenging in many areas.
But no matter how much you want to get to the other side of a flooded road, it's not worth the risk.
According to the NSW State Emergency Service, "The major cause of death during floods is by people entering floodwater. This includes driving, riding and walking through floodwater and children playing in floodwater."
Their message during events like this is clear. "The NSW SES advises people to NEVER enter floodwater."

Thankfully, the rain is going to clear most waterlogged areas of eastern Australia by Wednesday. However, flooding is likely to continue into the second half of the week as swollen rivers attempt to disperse the massive volumes of water that have hit the ground over the last six days.
If you need emergency help during this flooding event, contact the SES on 132 500.
