Best rainfall so far this winter
Sam Terry
After a couple of weeks of mostly dry weather along the New South Wales coasts, it looks as though the rain has come back to visit, persisting at least until the end of the week.
Yesterday, showers developed over the South Coast as a low intensified briefly offshore, generating a few showers and gusty winds. Many places picked up their heaviest falls in a couple of weeks, including Ulladulla and Moruya, which received 11 and 12 millimetres respectively.
Today, the focus of the falls moved further north along the coast with a southerly change, bringing a few drops to Sydney by 9 o'clock. The showers have increased this afternoon, with Observatory Hill recording a burst of 10 millimetres in one hour.
The best falls were mainly north of Sydney, despite the fact that the city recorded its wettest day this winter.
Gosford was deluged with 31 millimetres this afternoon, 13 millimetres of that picked up in just half an hour. Norah Head has also breached the 30 millimetre mark, recording 33 millimetres so far.
For the rest of this evening and tomorrow, the showery winds will continue to buffet the central coast, bringing another 20 millimetres to the coast.
